CFP Eligibility Checker (India): Which FPSB Pathway Are You On?

FPSB India publishes two routes to CFP® certification: the Regular Pathway (open from a Class 12 pass) and the Fast Track Pathway (for candidates with specified professional qualifications plus relevant work experience). This checker asks the same questions FPSB India’s own eligibility criteria ask, and tells you which pathway you’re on — using only the criteria published on FPSB India’s site, each linked below so you can verify every rule yourself.

Criteria source: FPSB India — Regular Pathway · Fast Track Pathway (both checked 9 September 2026)

What this tool is (and isn’t): an indicative self-check built on FPSB India’s published criteria. It is not an FPSB decision — Fast Track registration in particular is “Subject to Approval” after FPSB India verifies your documents (their words, from the published fee annexure). Always confirm your specific case with FPSB India before paying any fee.

This is FPSB India’s published list of approved qualifications for Fast Track — verify the fine print on the Fast Track page.

FPSB India lists these as additional Fast Track categories, each with its own process — details on the Fast Track page.

The rules behind this checker, verbatim

All wording checked against FPSB India’s live pages on 9 September 2026. If FPSB updates its criteria after that date, FPSB’s pages win — not this tool.

What about “Challenge Status”? Some older articles mention a CFP “Challenge Status” route in India. FPSB India’s current published structure lists exactly two pathways — Regular and Fast Track — and the Fast Track Pathway is the current accelerated route for experienced, qualified professionals. If you registered under an older structure, confirm your standing directly with FPSB India.

Frequently asked questions

Can I start the CFP course before I finish my graduation?

Yes — FPSB India’s published entry requirement for the Regular Pathway is a Class 12/HSC pass (age 18+). Graduation must be completed by the time you apply for certification itself, not before you start studying. (Source: FPSB India, Regular Pathway page)

I’m a CA. Do I have to write all the Specialist exams?

Not necessarily. A CA from ICAI is on FPSB India’s published Fast Track qualification list; with at least 3 years of relevant work experience, you can apply for Fast Track and be exempted from the three Specialist exams — subject to FPSB India’s document verification and approval. (Source: FPSB India, Fast Track Pathway page)

Does an MBA qualify me for Fast Track?

Only a full-time MBA/PGDM in the streams FPSB India lists (Finance, Marketing, Financial Services, Operations/Systems) from an AICTE / Ministry of Education approved institution — FPSB India’s page states explicitly that “only the streams listed shall be considered”. You’d also need the 3 years of relevant work experience. (Source: FPSB India, Fast Track Pathway page)

What work experience counts for Fast Track?

FPSB India lists experience with a bank, NBFC, mutual fund AMC, insurance company, securities company, portfolio manager, brokerage, Registered Investment Adviser (as a person associated with investment advice), corporate treasury, or an academic institution / FPSB-authorized education provider — at least 3 years, at the time you submit documents. I have no finance background at all. Can I still become a CFP?

Yes. The Regular Pathway needs no finance background — a Class 12 pass and age 18+ gets you in, and the course teaches financial planning from first principles starting with the IPS module. (Source: FPSB India, Regular Pathway page)

Is this checker’s result official?

No — it’s an indicative self-check built strictly on FPSB India’s published criteria. Fast Track registration is “Subject to Approval” after FPSB India verifies your documents. Confirm your specific case with FPSB India before paying any fee.
