How many CFP® professionals does India actually have? How fast is the number growing, what does FPSB charge, and how does India compare with the rest of the world? This page collects the answers in one place — every figure taken from a verifiable public source (FPSB, FPSB India, CFP Board, SEBI, AMFI, World Bank), cited inline with an “as of” date. Journalists, bloggers and researchers are welcome to cite this page; the primary sources are linked beside every number so you can verify each one yourself.

How many CFP® professionals does India have?
As of 31 December 2025, India had 3,534 CFP® professionals — roughly 10% more than a year earlier, per FPSB’s 2025 year-in-review press release (carried in Indian business press in March 2026), and the same “3,534+” figure FPSB India displays on its own Regular Pathway page as of September 2026. India crossed the 3,000 mark during 2024, a year FPSB India called out as placing India “among the top three fastest-growing markets” for CFP® professionals globally.

India’s CFP® count, year by year
| As of 31 December | CFP® professionals in India | Year-on-year growth | Source (FPSB / FPSB India) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2021 | 2,338 | — | FPSB India news (Feb-2023 release) |
| 2022 | 2,517 | +7.7% | FPSB India news (23-Feb-2023 release) |
| 2023 | 2,731 | +8.5% | FPSB India news (15-Feb-2024 release) |
| 2024 | 3,215 | +17.7% | FPSB India news (14-Feb-2025 release) |
| 2025 | 3,534 | +9.9% | FPSB release via BizzBuzz (26-Mar-2026); “3,534+” also shown on india.fpsb.org/students |
That’s 51% growth in four years (computed: 2,338 → 3,534). For scale: India’s net annual addition has ranged from about 180 to 480 CFP® professionals over 2022–2025 (computed from the table above) — in a country whose mutual fund industry alone manages over ₹85 lakh crore (see the industry-context section below).
Two more FPSB-published India data points worth knowing: women currently represent about 23.6% of India’s CFP® professionals (23% at end-2024, when FPSB India stated an ambition of 35% by 2030), and FPSB India ranked India’s 2024 growth among the top three markets worldwide.

| Brazil | 11,425 | |
| India | 3,534 | FPSB release via BizzBuzz, 26-Mar-2026 |
India — the world’s most populous country — has fewer CFP® professionals than Brazil, and about 3% of the US count. Which brings us to the most striking statistic on this page.
Planners per person: India vs the USA
Divide population by CFP® count and the gap becomes vivid. These ratios are computed by us from the sourced figures shown — population from the World Bank (2024, the latest settled annual figure), CFP® counts from FPSB/CFP Board as cited:
| India | USA | |
|---|---|---|
| Population (World Bank, 2024) | 1,450,935,791 | 340,110,988 |
| CFP® professionals | 3,534 (31-Dec-2025, FPSB) | 107,529 (year-end 2025, FPSB); CFP Board states “more than 110,000” as of Dec-2025 |
| People per CFP® professional (computed) | ~4,10,000 (4.1 lakh) | ~3,200 |
Put differently: relative to population, the USA has roughly 130 times as many CFP® professionals as India (computed from the four sourced figures above). Even if India’s count kept compounding at its strongest recent pace (+17.7% in 2024), closing a gap of that size would take decades — which is precisely why FPSB India talks about India as one of its biggest growth opportunities, and why the career case for qualifying now is a supply-gap case, not a hype case.

The wider advice landscape in India
CFP® professionals are one part of a much larger — and strikingly lopsided — financial-advice ecosystem in India:
| Metric | Figure | As of | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| SEBI-registered Investment Advisers (RIAs) | 1,046 | 8-Sep-2026 | SEBI Recognised Intermediaries register |
| AMFI-registered mutual fund distributors (ARN holders, individual + corporate) | 1.99 lakh (~1,99,000) | 31-Mar-2026 | AMFI–CRISIL Factbook 2026 |
| Registered MFD workforce incl. EUIN holders | 3,41,043 | 31-Mar-2026 | AMFI–CRISIL Factbook 2026 |
| Indian mutual fund industry AUM | ₹85,75,657 crore | 31-Jul-2026 | AMFI |
| CFP® professionals | 3,534 | 31-Dec-2025 | FPSB (as cited above) |
Three computed observations from those sourced numbers:
- India has roughly 190 mutual fund distributors for every SEBI-registered adviser (1.99 lakh ARN holders vs 1,046 RIAs) — distribution has scaled; fee-only registered advice has not. SEBI’s own chairman flagged in March 2026 that “with just one thousand registered investment advisers… the registered advisory model needs to be made more viable, scalable, and attractive” (NewsOnAir, 16-Mar-2026).
- Fewer than 2 in every 100 ARN holders hold CFP® certification (3,534 CFPs vs 1.99 lakh ARN holders) — the certification is still a strong differentiator inside the distribution industry itself.
- Across CFPs and RIAs combined, India has under 5,000 individuals in its most-credentialed advice categories, serving a mutual fund base of ₹85+ lakh crore.
CFP® exam structure and pass-rate data
Exam structure in India (FPSB India, published)
| Exam | Format | Details (as published by FPSB India) |
|---|---|---|
| Specialist exams (IPS, RTPS, REPS — one each) | 75 multiple-choice questions, 2 hours, computer-based | 4 answer choices per question; no negative marking; online proctored or in person at DEXIT (formerly NSEIT) test centres; financial calculators and spreadsheet software permitted. 70%+ on course tests required to sit each Specialist exam. |
| CFP® exam (final) | 3 hours, two sections, multiple-choice | 25 stand-alone questions and 25 case-study-based questions per FPSB India’s Fast Track road map; each question has four choices, one clearly best. Taken alongside the Financial Plan Assessment (either order) within 6 months of paying the bundle fee. |

Pass rates: what is (and isn’t) published
FPSB India does not publish India-specific pass rates for the Specialist or CFP® exams — we checked FPSB India’s exams and news pages and no pass-rate figure appears, so we won’t quote one. The best published pass-rate benchmark in the CFP® world comes from CFP Board (USA), which announces results after every exam window:
| CFP® exam window (USA) | Pass rate | Candidates | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| March 2025 | 65% | 11,037 across all of 2025 (a record year) | CFP Board, Apr-2025 |
| July 2025 | 64% | CFP Board, Aug-2025 | |
| November 2025 | 64% | CFP Board, Dec-2025 |
Treat the US numbers as context, not as India’s rate: the US exam is a single 170-question exam under a different (though FPSB-affiliated) body, while India’s structure spreads testing across three Specialist exams plus the final CFP® exam. The honest India-specific statement is: a defined 70% course-test threshold, MCQ exams with no negative marking, and no published pass-rate.
What FPSB India charges: the published fee schedule
FPSB India publishes its fee annexure on its pathway pages (fetched 9-Sep-2026). These are FPSB India’s own fees, paid directly to FPSB — separate from any education provider’s course fee. FPSB may revise them; the linked pages are authoritative.
Regular Pathway (FPSB India fees)
| Item | Fee (as published) |
|---|---|
| Student Registration | ₹18,000 |
| Annual Subscription | ₹11,500 |
| Course material — IPS/RTPS/REPS (each) | ₹7,500 |
| Exam — IPS/RTPS/REPS (each) | ₹8,000 |
| Specialist Certification (IPS+RTPS+REPS) | ₹11,000 |
| Course material — IFP | ₹15,000 |
| FPSB® Psychology in Financial Planning — for Students | ₹5,000 |
| Financial Plan Assessment + CFP® Exam (bundled) | ₹25,000 |
| Financial Plan Assessment (standalone) | ₹12,000 |
| CFP® Exam (standalone) | ₹12,900 |
| CFP® Certification | ₹11,000 |
| Annual Renewal (CFP®/Specialist certification) | ₹11,000 |
Source: FPSB India — india.fpsb.org/students (fee annexure, checked 9-Sep-2026)
Computed illustration: a Regular Pathway candidate who registers once, pays one annual subscription, buys all four modules’ material, clears every exam on the first attempt and takes the bundled FPA+CFP® exam would pay FPSB India approximately ₹1,43,000 (18,000 + 11,500 + 3×7,500 + 3×8,000 + 11,000 + 15,000 + 5,000 + 25,000 + 11,000). That’s our arithmetic on FPSB’s published line items, not an FPSB figure — retakes, extra subscription years or fee revisions change it.
Fast Track Pathway (FPSB India fees)
| Item | Fee (as published) |
|---|---|
| Document Verification | ₹5,000 |
| Registration (subject to approval) + full course material (IPS/RTPS/REPS/IFP) | ₹38,000 |
